
Susan Marshall Dance Company
October 11, 2008Artistic director and modern dance choreographer Susan Marshall will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Susan Marshall Dance Company with the presentation of CLOUDLESS at ASU Gammage, Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008. This piece featuring five dancers is described as modest in means and stunning in effect.
CLOUDLESS is comprised of self-contained pieces, including works that are pure dance, theatrical and comedic. CLOUDLESS also features a range of music from “Crimson and Clover “ to Phillip Glass, and in complexity and emotion all woven together to form an irresistible narrative about the human predicament. CLOUDLESS is a theatrical experience that is at once an emotional punch in the stomach and a gentle caress.
Since 1982, Susan Marshall & Company have performed the innovative works of Artistic Director/Choreographer Susan Marshall in theaters throughout the U.S., Europe, and the Far East, receiving praise and respect from audiences worldwide.
A 2000 recipient of a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Fellowship, Marshall has received a Dance Magazine Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Brandeis University Creative Arts Citation, and was one of the first artists to receive the American Choreographer Award. Since 1985, Marshall, her artistic collaborators and company members, have received a total of 10 New York Dance and Performance Awards (Bessies) for their artistic achievements. The company has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts annually since 1986.
