Meet Donny

Donny

Where do you live? Phoenix, near South Mountain

Age: 31

Occupation: Emergency room nurse

Marital Status? Partnered

Children and Grandchildren: One step-daughter, Erin, 18

Where did you grow up? Just outside of Chicago, near Midway airport

First Broadway show, and where you saw it: Five Guys Named Moe, which I saw at a dinner theater in Chicago

At what age did you see your first Broadway show? 13 years old

What is your favorite Broadway show? This questions implies singularity, but I can’t have just one favorite. I would have to say Wicked and Ragtime.

What are your hobbies? Playing the piano for and singing with the Phoenix Metropolitan Men’s Chorus, home improvement, physical fitness, learning more about my line of work, spending time with my partner and our dogs, commercial airliners, traveling with my partner, having a nice glass of red wine.

A song and artist that speaks to you: “End of the World” by Matt Alber. It speaks about two people in a relationship that is ending, and how badly they both want it to work but know that it cannot. I don’t think there’s been a time that I’ve listened to it or watched the video and not cried. “Home” by Shoshana Bean is another one that gets me nearly every time.

Something Unique about yourself that defines you: I try to be as happy-go-lucky as possible, but in my line of work, that can be difficult. To combat my stress, I am often caught singing…in public…anytime…anyplace. Once caught, I don’t stop – it only gets worse with recognition. It’s been referred to before as “musical Tourettes.” I can relate most everyday goings-on with a song, and I often break out into it without warning. Consider this your warning.
