Exploring Character Education Through Puppetry
  • Workshop Leader: Judy Thibault Klevins
  • Recommended for Teachers of
    grades K–5
  • October 24, 2007 Location: Peoria Unified School District

Students delight in exploring literature and life through puppetry. Teachers will learn ways to help students create simple hand puppets and bring them to life to explore characters’ behaviors and their consequences. Participants discover how to help students analyze literary characters and apply those techniques to investigate character education situations through puppets.

Interdisciplinary Connections:
Enriching the Study of Mexican Culture

  • Workshop Leader: Sandi Hammonds
  • Recommended for Spanish or Social Studies teachers of grades 8–12
  • February 6, 2007 Location: Mesa Creative Arts Center

Teachers discover how the study of visual art can enrich language acquisition and appreciation of other cultures. Participants will explore the art and culture of Mexico through two art strategies: 1) Aesthetic Scanning, a systematic method for critically analyzing and responding to art, and 2) Point of View, an approach that encourages students to examine the point of view of an artist from another culture.

Workshops can be submitted for re-certification credit. Special thanks to Mesa Public Schools and the Peoria Unified School District for their continued partnership.
